MSC Method®

Performance. Behaviour. Change.

MSC Method® is an integrated framework developed by Neil Sunley through more than 25 years of applied work in behaviour change, therapy, coaching and performance psychology.

Pressure and behaviour change rarely fit neatly into one model.

People are complex. The way we think, feel and perform is influenced by attention, emotion, behaviour, physiology, experience and context. No single approach provides every answer.

The MSC Method® was developed to bring complementary evidence-informed approaches together within one practical framework, allowing the right principles and techniques to be applied to the person, the situation and the outcome required.

Why MSC Method®?

One Method.Three Applications

One integrated framework, applied across performance, professional practice and practitioner development.

Teaching the MSC Method to practitioners

01 - The Framework

MSC Method®

The MSC Method® brings together complementary principles from performance psychology, hypnosis, ACT and CBT-informed approaches, mindfulness, coaching and applied behaviour change.

Developed through more than 25 years of practical work, the framework is designed around a simple principle: different people, pressures and situations require different ways of working.

Rather than relying on one model, MSC Method® provides a structured way to select and combine appropriate approaches according to the individual, the context and the outcome required.

02 - Practical Development

Practitioner Training

The MSC Method® practitioner training translates the framework into practical professional development for therapists, coaches and helping professionals.

Training explores how different approaches can be integrated thoughtfully and ethically, with particular emphasis on judgement, timing, flexibility and application.

Practitioner intensives are offered periodically, with future dates released according to demand.

03 - The Community

MSC Method® Guild

The MSC Method® Guild provides an optional professional community for practitioners who have completed recognised MSC Method® training.

It supports continued learning, professional connection and the development of applied practice.

Membership may also provide opportunities for practitioner visibility and future MSC Method® professional development.

Practitioner Development

The Training

The MSC Method® practitioner development is designed for therapists, coaches and helping professionals who want to broaden their applied skills while retaining sound professional judgement, ethical practice and respect for the limits of their competence.

FOUNDATION

Foundation in Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy Award

New to hypnosis?

The MSC Method® Foundation is an optional online introduction for therapists, coaches and helping professionals who want to understand the principles and responsible application of hypnosis before attending practitioner training.

It covers core concepts, terminology, ethical considerations and practical foundations.

Practitioners who already hold an appropriate hypnosis or hypnotherapy qualification may progress directly to MSC Method® practitioner training.

MSC Method® Practitioner Intensive

A practical two-day professional development intensive for therapists, coaches and helping professionals who want to work more flexibly across behaviour change, regulation and performance. The profession is changing rapidly. Clients expect flexible, personalised support, while AI is making information more accessible than ever before.

The intensive explores how to select and integrate complementary approaches thoughtfully, rather than using them as isolated techniques.

Particular emphasis is placed on professional judgement: understanding what may be useful, for whom, in which context, and when another approach or referral may be more appropriate.

Practical learning is drawn from:

Then keep your list, but slightly modernise it:

  • Hypnosis and hypnotic communication

  • Performance psychology

  • ACT and CBT-informed approaches

  • Mindfulness and applied regulation

  • Coaching and behaviour-change strategies

Learning includes demonstrations, discussion, applied exercises and case-based practice, with an emphasis on translating principles into real professional situations.

Developed Through 25 Years of Applied Practice.

Neil Sunley is a hypnotherapist, performance psychology practitioner and the creator of the MSC Method® — a proprietary framework developed through more than 25 years of applied work in behaviour change, coaching and performance.

His professional background began in martial arts and performance coaching, where discipline, attention, confidence and the ability to perform under pressure were practical requirements rather than abstract concepts.

His work later developed across hypnotherapy, behaviour change, coaching and applied performance psychology, working with people facing challenges ranging from anxiety and unhelpful behavioural patterns to competition, performance and high-pressure situations.

Across thousands of client sessions, continued professional study and applied research, one principle has remained consistent:

Effective work rarely comes from rigid loyalty to one approach. It comes from understanding the person, the pressure and the outcome — then applying the right principles at the right time.

That thinking became the foundation of the MSC Method®.

Today, the framework informs Neil’s work across performance, behaviour change, practitioner development and Performance Under Pressure.

MSC Method® continues to evolve alongside research, professional practice and real-world application.
